Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Rainy Weekend Ahead As RMC Issues Yellow Alert For 7 Dists Today, 19 Tomorrow

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Tamil Nadu, signaling heavy rainfall over the next few days. Seven districts are under alert today, followed by 19 districts tomorrow and 14 on Sunday, setting the stage for a wet weekend across much of the state.

According to the weather office, isolated areas in Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Kallakurichi districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall today.

TN Weather RMC Predicts Heavy Rain

On Saturday, heavy rains are forecasted for isolated areas across several districts, including Coimbatore (Ghat areas), Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

Sunday's forecast includes heavy rainfall in 14 districts, with Coimbatore (Ghat areas), Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Pudukottai among those expected to be affected.

A yellow alert is issued when rainfall is expected to range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, indicating worsening weather conditions.

The RMC's forecast for Chennai today suggests partly cloudy skies, with thunderstorms and moderate rain in some areas. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 36°C, with minimum temperatures between 27°C and 28°C. Weather expert R Pradeep John, known as the Tamil Nadu Weatherman, added, "Chennai is experiencing bright, sunny conditions, ideal for early rains today. Other places may also see rainfall, and more details about October's outlook have been shared in a previous post."

On Thursday, Kallakurichi's Moongilthuraipattu recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 9 cm, while Madurai Airport registered the highest maximum temperature at 38.8°C. Erode experienced the lowest minimum temperature at 19.6°C.
