Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Rains Expected In 13 Districts, Chennai To Stay Dry

In a major relief to the people of Tamil Nadu from the heat, 13 districts are predicted to get good rains in the next four to five days.

On his social media page 'Tamil Nadu Weatherman', weather blogger R Pradeep John said that there is "good news" for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.

He wrote, "Good News for Delta, South Tamil Nadu, West Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal and Interior Karnataka, Parts of Interior Tamil Nadu. Thanks to elongated trough and easterlies, there will be good rains in the next 4-5 days."

According to him, the districts that are likely to get good rains are: Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Nellai, Kanyakumari, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Theni, Kodaikanal, Valparai, Nilgiris, Madurai, Sivagangai, Pudukottai.

However, the dry spell is predicted to continue in Chennai. He said, "Chennai would be dry but thanks to easterlies, temperature will be in check." He also mentioned that "there will be hit or miss rains" for one or two days.

What RMD Says?

The Regional Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain in a few places with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places in South Tamil Nadu on Friday. It has also forecasted that the sky condition in Chennai is likely to be partly cloudy, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 35°C and the minimum temperature likely to be 26-27°C.

The statement said, "Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari."

On Thursday, the RMD said that the peak temperature soared to a scorching 41.8°C (+4.7°C) in Tirupattur, with Salem close behind at 40.1°C (+2.3°C) on Wednesday. Across the plains of interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures ranged from 37°C to 40°C. Coastal regions experienced milder conditions, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 37°C, while the hills remained relatively cooler at 21°C to 31°C, although some pockets saw temperatures significantly above normal.

Chennai saw typical maximum temperatures, with MBK recording 35.5°C and NBK at 34.4°C.
