Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Expected, Yellow Alert Issued For Next 3 Days
The Regional Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next five days for several districts in Tamil Nadu.
The RMD forecasts heavy rain expected to occur in isolated locations across Nilgiris, the Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts for today.

On Friday, RMD predicts heavy rainfall likely to occur in isolated areas across Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai districts, and Karaikal area.
A yellow alert is declared when anticipated rainfall falls within the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, indicating an escalation of the existing adverse weather conditions.
During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am, maximum temperatures remained generally within normal range across many areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with some isolated pockets experiencing temperatures below normal in Tamil Nadu.
The highest maximum temperature, reaching 39.3°C, was recorded in Vellore.
Across the plains of interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures ranged from 35°C to 39°C. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal saw temperatures ranging between 31°C and 36°C, while hilly regions experienced temperatures between 20°C and 27°C.
Chennai (MBK) recorded a below-normal maximum temperature of 36.5°C, marking a deviation of -1.9°C, while Chennai (NBK) recorded a normal maximum temperature of 36.0°C, with a deviation of -1.4°C.
"Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be around 36°C and Minimum temperature is likely to be 28-29°C," the RMD added.
