Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Chennai Records Hottest Day As Temperatures Soar Across The State
Tamil Nadu is witnessing an early onset of summer heat, with temperatures soaring above seasonal averages across the state. On March 6, Chennai experienced its hottest day of the year so far, with Nungambakkam recording 36.4°C and Meenambakkam reaching 37.7°C - both significantly above normal levels by 3.6°C and 4.3°C, respectively.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 36-37°C on Friday, rising to 37-38°C on Saturday. Across Tamil Nadu, 11 weather stations recorded temperatures above 37°C, with Erode emerging as the hottest location at 39.2°C.
Maximum temperatures have been reported 2-4°C above normal at many places across Tamil Nadu, particularly in the interior regions. The plains of Interior Tamil Nadu registered temperatures between 35-39°C, while coastal areas, including Puducherry and Karaikal, recorded temperatures ranging from 32-38°C.
Districts such as Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Tirupattur, Trichy, Tiruvallur, and Vellore have witnessed appreciably above normal temperatures, with departures of 3.1°C to 5.0°C from the seasonal averages.
The weather department has forecast a gradual rise in temperatures by 2°C over the next three days (March 7 to March 9). North Tamil Nadu is likely to experience temperatures 3-4°C above normal, while other regions will see temperatures 2-3°C above normal during this period.
