Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Chennai, 10 Dists To Get Heavy Rains On Saturday

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for 11 districts in Tamil Nadu on Saturday as changing atmospheric conditions are expected to influence weather patterns across the region.

According to the bulletin, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts have been placed under yellow alert. The advisory also extends to the Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

Chennai Weather Outlook

The state capital is likely to experience moderate temperatures, with the maximum expected around 32°C and the minimum hovering between 25-26°C.

The RMC noted that maximum temperatures across several parts of Tamil Nadu were 2-4°C above normal, while other places, including Puducherry and Karaikal, remained near normal. Erode recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 35.6°C, whereas Karur Paramathi logged the lowest minimum at 19.5°C in the plains.

Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay

The weather agency reported that yesterday's upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has now shifted to south Sri Lanka and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. The system extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height-an indication that it may influence rainfall distribution in the coming days.

Rain Likely in Southern Ghat Districts

Meanwhile, the RMC has forecast heavy rain at isolated places over the Ghat areas of Tirunelveli, as well as parts of Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts on Friday.
