Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: 7 Districts On Yellow Alert, Expect Moderate Rains In Chennai

Seven districts across Tamil Nadu is on yellow alert as the Regional Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains for today.

"Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Vellore, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai and Kallakurichi districts," the Regional Meterological Department said in its daily bulletin.

According to the RMC, Chennai is expected to have partly cloudy skies. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some areas during the evening and night. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 24-25°C.

During the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 am today, maximum temperatures were generally below normal or near normal across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Palayamkottai at 38.4°C.

Maximum temperatures ranged from 34-38°C in the plains of Interior Tamil Nadu, 35-38°C in North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, 32-35°C in South Coastal Tamil Nadu, and 21-26°C in the hilly areas.

Chennai recorded below-normal maximum temperatures, with NBK at 34.9°C (2.3°C below normal) and MBK at 35.6°C (1.9°C below normal).

Devala in The Nilgiris recorded the highest rainfall on Tuesday with 13 cm, followed by 11 cm in Arcot, Ranipet district, 10 cm in Pandalur in The Nilgiris, and Ayinkudi in Pudukkottai. Neyveli AWS (Cuddalore district), Wallajah (Ranipet district), Anna Nagar (Chennai district), Vadakuthu (Cuddalore district), Panapakkam (Ranipet district), Sriperumbudur (Kancheepuram district), Chennai North, Teynampet (Chennai district), T.V.K Nagar (Chennai district), Zone 02 Manali (Chennai district), Arimalam (Pudukkottai district), and Gudalur Bazar (The Nilgiris district) each recorded 7 cm of rainfall.
