Tamil Nadu Weather: 9 Dists On Yellow Alert, Chennai To Get Moderate Rains Today

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in isolated areas across several districts of Tamil Nadu, even as temperatures are expected to remain above normal for the next three days. The alert comes following significant rainfall recorded in various parts of the state on Tuesday.

According to the RMC statement released on Wednesday, isolated heavy rain is likely in Theni, Dindigul, Dharmapuri, Salem, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Nilgiris, and the Ghat areas of Coimbatore.

This follows a Tuesday where the Dindigul district was particularly affected, with Dindigul town receiving 8 cm of rain. Other areas that saw substantial rainfall include Thuraiyur and Alangayam with 7 cm each, and several locations in Dindigul, Krishnagiri, and Coimbatore registering 5-6 cm.

While a few districts are bracing for downpours, the RMC has stated that there will be no major change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas from Wednesday to Friday. However, the forecast indicates that maximum temperatures are likely to be 2-3°C above normal in a few pockets during this period, which could result in more humid and uncomfortable conditions despite the rain.

For Chennai, the forecast is for a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The city's maximum temperature is expected to be around 35-36°C, while the minimum temperature will hover around 28°C.
