An upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and neighbourhood continues to persist and extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation over the east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal remains active between 1.5 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Tamil Nadu coast has become less marked.
Temperatures Remain High
Despite the rain forecast in several districts, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu continue to remain above normal at isolated places. The RMC said there was no significant change in temperatures during the past 24 hours.
Palayamkottai recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 39.9°C on Wednesday. Chennai city recorded 38.2°C, while Chennai Airport touched 39.5°C. Madurai city registered 39.2°C and Erode recorded 38°C.
Among the hill stations, Uthagamandalam recorded a cool 23.2°C, while Kodaikanal registered 23°C and Coonoor settled at 24.4°C.
Kanyakumari recorded the lowest minimum temperature among the plains at 23.8°C, while Uthagamandalam remained the coldest in the hills with a minimum temperature of 12.2°C.
Chennai to Continue Experiencing Hot and Humid Weather
The RMC has forecast partly cloudy skies for Chennai city and its suburbs over the next two days. Hot and humid conditions are likely to continue prevailing in the capital.
The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 40°C to 41°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 29°C and 30°C on both Thursday and Friday.
Weather officials have advised people in rain-alert districts to remain cautious during heavy showers, especially in hilly and ghat regions where sudden spells of rain could affect normal movement.
