Tamil Nadu Train Accident: Heavy Rains Hinders Restoration Work, Probe Ordered - Top Updates

Nineteen passengers were injured when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express (Train No. 12578) collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station near Chennai on Friday night. The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the Chennai-Gudur section, between Ponneri and Kavaraippettai, causing 12 coaches of the express train to derail.

The collision disrupted train services across the section, leading to the cancellation of two trains and the rerouting or diversion of several others via alternate routes. Railway Safety Commissioner of the Southern Circle, Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, visited the site, stating that a full investigation would begin next week after site inspections and witness statements.

  • "This train was headed toward Gudur, Andhra Pradesh, and from there, it would continue to Darbhanga via Odisha," Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh told reporters.
