Tamil Nadu School Reopening Date: Here's When The New Academic Year Begins For State, CBSE

In a relief to the students, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has postponed the reopening of schools across the state.

As per the earlier notification, the 2024 academic year was supposed to start on June 6. However, the government has now postponed it to June 1.

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has now announced that schools across Tamil Nadu will be reopened on June 10.

As per a notification released on May 31st, all schools-government, aided, and private-are to remain closed until June 9th due to the intense heat wave conditions in the State, as stated by the School Education Director, G. Arivoli.

When will CBSE schools reopen?

CBSE schools in Tamil Nadu are anticipated to commence the 2024-2025 academic year on June 13th, 2024, aligning with the general academic calendar for the state. The academic year is expected to feature specific schedules for exams and holidays.

The upcoming academic year of 2024 is poised to be noteworthy as the state government considers implementing its new education policy, formulated by a committee chaired by Justice D Murugesan. The committee has proposed significant reforms such as establishing a uniform entry age for schools, promoting play-based learning in kindergarten (LKG and UKG), and incorporating Class XI and XII performance into college admission criteria.

Furthermore, students enrolled in government schools will be provided with complimentary textbooks on the inaugural day of school.

"We have printed 2.7 crore free textbooks for students in government and government-aided schools. These books have been delivered to nodal points in the districts and will be transported to schools by May 31," The Times of India quoted an official from the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation as saying.

The corporation has also launched the sale of textbooks for private schools and individuals, printing 1.3 crore copies for sale this year. The official added that free kits, including school bags, sandals, geometry boxes, crayons, boots, and sweaters, will be distributed in July.
"Schools have started preparations to welcome students after the summer holidays. "We have started painting the classrooms and cleaning the campus anticipating the reopening in the first week of June. We also completed Class XI admissions," GJ Manohar, principal of MCC Higher Secondary School in Chetpet, told the daily.

R Prabudoss, headmaster of Govt Model Higher Secondary School in MMDA Colony, confirmed that government schools will distribute books to students on the first day of reopening.
