Tamil Nadu Summer Holidays For Schools Not Extended; TN Schools To Reopen As Planned Before
Despite swirling rumours of a delay, the Tamil Nadu government has put all speculation to rest - schools across the state will reopen on June 2, as originally scheduled. The summer break, which kicked off on April 25, is officially coming to an end.
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has reiterated the reopening date and urged school authorities to make sure classrooms are clean and ready to welcome students.

Ahead of the reopening, the Department of School Education has rolled out a set of guidelines. Students are being asked to pitch in - helping clean their classrooms, prepping blackboards, and getting things in order for a fresh start.
Some additional directives include:
- Ethics classes will now be held once a week.
- Anti-drug awareness initiatives are to be taken up every Tuesday by students from Classes 6 to 12, using creative tools like speeches, poems, pamphlets, and posters.
- The Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme is to be served promptly and with good quality.
- After lunch, students will now get 20 minutes to read children's magazines.
Earlier, there were concerns about a possible extension of the holidays due to the intense heat and early signs of monsoon. But with temperatures easing up, officials have decided to stick to the original plan.
Heavy rains are predicted for the next few days in Coimbatore district, Nilgiris, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni districts, Tiruppur, Dindigul and Kanyakumari districts. If the rains create havoc in these regions, there is a possibility of a delay in school reopening.
The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) conducted board exams for Class 12 from March 3 to March 25, covering key subjects across various streams. Class 11 exams were held from March 5 to March 27, while Class 10 SSLC written exams took place between March 28 and April 15, following practical assessments.
The results for SSLC and HSC+1 were declared on May 16, while Plus 2 results were announced earlier on May 8. With the academic calendar proceeding as planned, students and parents await further updates on any weather-related adjustments.
So, it's time for students to shake off the holiday mood - school bells will start ringing again on Monday!
