Tamil Nadu School Holidays In September: School, Colleges To Remain Closed For 11 Days

Students in Tamil Nadu can gear up for a relaxed September, as schools and colleges are set to remain closed for a total of 11 days this month. Thanks to a mix of festivals, weekends, quarterly exams, and term holidays, the academic calendar looks lighter than usual.

Tamil Nadu School Holidays In September 2025

The first break of the month comes on September 5, when schools will shut for Milad-un-Nabi. After that, the regular weekends add up to eight more days off. But the big pause arrives later in the month, once the quarterly exams wrap up.

According to the School Education Department's schedule, exams for Classes 1 to 12 will run from September 18 to 26, 2025. Once those are done, schools will close for quarterly holidays from September 27 to October 6, 2025.

In all, that makes it 11 non-working days in September for government and aided schools. Interestingly, this year the Tamil Nadu government has declared all Saturdays and Sundays as holidays - unlike previous years when a few Saturdays were working.

However, parents of children in private CBSE, ICSE, or other board schools may want to double-check their calendars, as many of these schools stick to their own schedules and sometimes keep classes on Saturdays.

While students are celebrating the extra downtime, teachers will be under pressure to speed up the syllabus before the quarterly exams kick in.
