Tamil Nadu School Holiday: Will It Remain Closed On Nov 25 In 14 Dists Over Rains?

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has placed 14 districts in Tamil Nadu under a yellow alert for today (Monday), warning of heavy rain across several southern and delta regions.

Heavy Rain Likely in 14 Districts

According to the RMC's daily bulletin, heavy rain is expected at isolated places over: Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Sivaganga and Karaikal region.

The weather agency also cautioned that one or two locations in the Ghat areas of Tirunelveli and Tenkasi may experience heavy to very heavy rain.

Yellow Alert for Tomorrow Too

For Tuesday, the RMC has retained the yellow alert for four districts: Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram.

Cyclonic Developments: Two Systems Brewing

In its detailed weather statement, the RMC explained the evolving systems over the seas:

System Near Strait of Malacca

• Yesterday's well-marked low pressure over the Strait of Malacca and South Andaman Sea moved slightly west and lay over Malaysia and the adjoining Strait of Malacca this morning.
• The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
• It is likely to intensify into a Depression over the South Andaman Sea within 24 hours, and further strengthen into a Cyclonic Storm over the South Bay of Bengal within 48 hours, moving west-northwestwards.

Low Pressure Expected Near Comorin

The upper air circulation over the Comorin region persisted today.

Under its influence, a new Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Comorin and nearby parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka on November 25, and may intensify further.

Circulation Over Southeast Arabian Sea

Another cyclonic circulation persists over the Southeast Arabian Sea, extending up to 3.1 km.

Rainfall Report (Sunday)

• Oothu (Tirunelveli) topped the charts with 23 cm, followed closely by:
• Nalumukku (Tirunelveli): 22 cm
• Sethiathope (Cuddalore), Kakkachi (Tirunelveli): 21 cm

Manjolai (Tirunelveli): 19 cmSeveral locations, including Parangipettai, Chidambaram, Bhuvanagiri, Thirukuvalai, Madukkur, Nagapattinam, Annamalai Nagar, recorded 13-14 cm.

A long list of other stations across Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Tenkasi, Kallakurichi, Erode, Ariyalur and Thoothukudi received 9-12 cm of rain.
