Tamil Nadu Rains: Is There A Holiday For Schools On Thursday, November 28?
As Cyclone Fengal intensified, the Tamil Nadu government took precautionary measures by declaring holidays for schools across several districts.
At least 11 districts, including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam, had their schools and colleges shut for the day in anticipation of heavy rains on Wednesday.

While Chennai and Chengalpattu saw holidays only for schools, other districts like Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Thiruvallur, Villupuram, and Puducherry, along with Karaikal, experienced a complete shutdown of educational institutions. The decision was made in light of warnings from the Regional Meteorological Centre, which forecasted heavy rains for multiple districts in Tamil Nadu, including Cuddalore, Chennai, and Tiruvallur.
The meteorological predictions for Wednesday suggested significant rainfall across several regions, with a continued warning for Thursday. Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Chennai, along with other districts like Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai, were all on high alert, bracing for more rainfall.
Is There A Holiday For Schools Tomorrow?
While many districts declared holidays in advance, the situation remained somewhat unclear for November 29, with Nagapattinam, Karaikal and Puducherry already being confirmed for a school holiday. Other districts, however, had yet to make a decision.
However, netizens are having a field day as the rains stopped in Chennai. While the authorities declared holiday for schools and colleges in view of rains due to Cyclone Fengal, the Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai has not witnessed rains in most parts today.
As a result, people are adding humour to the situation about the timing of the holidays. One user on X joked, "What's the surefire way to stop rain in Chennai? Just declare a holiday for schools and colleges."
