Tamil Nadu Weather: 1 Dead; Heavy Rains To Pound Chennai, 17 Other Districts

The Regional Meteorological Department on Monday predicted heavy rain for eighteen districts in Tamil Nadu.

Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvannamalai are the districts which have been issued 'heavy to very heavy rain' warning by the weather-monitoring agency.

Also, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Toothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur districts of Tamilnadu for today.

"Light to moderate rain at many places over South Tamilnadu and at few places over North Tamilnadu and over Puducherry & Karaikal area with thunderstorm & lightning at one or two places is likely to occur. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamilnadu," the RMD said in its predictions for Tuesday.

    As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, the weather forecast indicates that the sky condition is expected to be generally cloudy in Tamil Nadu's capital city. There is a likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall in certain areas, the RMD said.

    The maximum temperature is anticipated to range between 26-27°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be in the range of 22-23°C. This forecast suggests that the weather conditions are conducive to overcast skies, with the possibility of significant rainfall in specific regions, and relatively mild temperatures within the specified ranges.

    As a result, educational institutions in eight districts have been declared closed on Monday. District Collectors in Kallakurichi, Ranipet, Vellore, and Tiruvannamalai have announced the closure of schools. Also, due to adverse weather conditions, schools and colleges in Nagapattinam, Kilvelur, Viluppuram, and Cuddalore will also remain shut on Monday.

    Annamalai University in Chidambaram has postponed examinations in response to the heavy rain.

    Meanwhile, a nine-year-old girl has been killed after the wall of her house collapsed. The incident occurred in the Thiruvarur district on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Monisha. Her brother Mohandas has suffered injuries in the incident.
