Tamil Nadu: Rain Update: Kudimiyanmalai Records Heaviest Rainfall; Chennai Areas Also Affected
Kudimiyanmalai in Pudukkottai district has become the rainfall hotspot of Tamil Nadu, registering an impressive 13 cm of rain within a 24-hour period, as of 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. This significant downpour has caused widespread weather disruptions in the region.
In Chennai and its surrounding areas, heavy rainfall was also noted, with Gummidipoondi and Ennore each recording 10 cm. Other locations that saw substantial rain include Zone 2 Manali, Zone 8 Malar Colony, Anna Nagar, Zone 6 Kolathur, T.V.K. Nagar, Ponneri, and Zone 5 Royapuram, all measuring 9 cm. Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam followed closely, with both areas receiving 7 cm.

To manage emergencies during the northeast monsoon, the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) have established control rooms operating 24/7 across the 12 police districts within their jurisdiction. Residents can reach the special control room at the City Police Commissioner's office by calling 044-23452437.
Also, 12 control rooms in each police district and 35 special control rooms in flood-prone and low-lying areas have been set up to monitor the situation.

Traffic and law enforcement personnel have been instructed to barricade waterlogged roads and subways, advising motorists to avoid such areas. All control rooms will coordinate with other departments to ensure continuous support and safety.
