Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief K Annamalai found himself in a soup after the state police lodged a case against him. According to the reports, a case has been lodged against the Bommidi Police Station in Dharmapuri district for allegedly promoting religious enmity between two groups.
As per the police report, K Annamalai has been charged under the Indian Penal Code's (IPC) sections Section 153A (pertaining to promoting religious enmity), 504 (provocation of public peace), and 505 (2) (fostering ill-will between classes of people within a place of worship).

Reports said that allegations against the Tamil Nadu BJP chief have been leveled after an altercation with a group of Christian youth, who questioned his entry to a church during his rally at En Mann En Makkal outside St. Lourdes Church in Bommidi.
Earlier, a defamation suit was filed against the K Annamalai by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin over false allegations.

CM's legal representative for the defamation case, G Devarajan, had told the media, "During the press briefing on April 14, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai made several complaints against Chief Minister MK Stalin who is delivering good governance. Those allegations have no proof, and in a way, it damaged the reputation of the chief minister. Hence, as per the G.O. (Government Order) issued by the government, today, on behalf of the chief minister, I have filed a defamation case."
On April 14, Annamalai released 'DMK Files' pointing a finger at CM Stalin and his family. Swifty reacting to the BJP's allegations, DMK sent a legal notice for defamation to Annamalai seeking an unconditional apology from CM and his family members for false corruption allegations.
