Significance Of Shivaratri
Hindus observe this sacred occasion through fasting, night-long prayers, and chanting of Lord Shiva's name, reflecting upon important mythological events. According to ancient texts, Lord Shiva consumed the deadly Halahala poison to protect the universe, symbolizing his role as the supreme protector.
In Shaivism, it is believed that on this holy night, Lord Shiva performs a divine dance representing the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction. Another well-known legend emphasizes the celestial marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing cosmic balance and harmony.
