Tamil Nadu: Hacked Dalit youth's father-in-law surrenders

Chennai, March 14: A day after a young Dalit man was hacked to death in the public in Tamil Nadu, his wife's father surrendered before a Nalakottai court in Dindigul.

Shankar, a 21-year-old Dalit and his 19-year-old wife Kowsalya were attacked by three armed motorcycle-borne men in Udumalaipetta in the state's Tiruppur district on Sunday morning. They hacked Shankar who died en route to ths hospital while Kowshaulya was admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore with serious injuries.

Shankar belonged to the Pallar community and married Kowshaulya eight months ago. He, according to his family, had been facing threats from the in-laws.

Shankar's family members also said that there were two previous attempts of kidnapping. While one was foiled, the other saw his wife getting abducted.
