Tamil Nadu Elections Predictions: DMK On Top, TVK Emerges As Youth Favourite: Tughlak Idaya Survey
The latest Tughlak Idaya Survey, conducted by the Tamil weekly Tughlak and edited by S. Gurumurthy, has stirred fresh political debate in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the crucial South Zone. Known for its distinctive positioning in the State's political discourse, the survey is often viewed through two prisms - its sampling methodology and its perceived political alignment. Yet, its findings this time present numbers that no major party can afford to ignore.
DMK+ Leads Overall, But TVK Surges
In the South Zone, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance (DMK+) continues to hold the top spot with 37.1% projected vote share. However, the surprise element is the rapid rise of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which secures 27.0%, pushing the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK+) alliance to third place at 24.0%. Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) trails at 4.5%, while others account for less than 1%.

This ranking suggests a three-cornered contest emerging in the region, with DMK at number one, TVK consolidating second position, and AIADMK attempting to hold ground at third.
Youth Wave Favours TVK
The most striking data point comes from the 18-30 age group. TVK dominates this demographic with a massive 49.8% vote share projection - nearly half of young voters in the South Zone. In contrast, DMK+ manages only 20.2%, AIADMK+ stands at 11.7%, and NTK secures 8.8%.
This indicates that TVK's messaging and outreach are resonating deeply with first-time and young voters. If this trend sustains and translates into actual ballots, it could significantly reshape electoral arithmetic in several constituencies.
Among the 31-60 age group, however, DMK+ regains strength with 37.3%, while TVK drops to 25% and AIADMK+ closely follows at 23.7%. NTK's support dips to 4%. This split clearly shows a generational divide - older voters appear more inclined toward established Dravidian parties, while the youth are gravitating toward TVK in large numbers.
Women Voters: A New Battleground
Another major takeaway from the survey is the strong support TVK is reportedly gaining among women aged 18-40. While DMK+ still leads among overall female voters with 38.3%, TVK is not far behind at 31.1%, overtaking AIADMK+ which stands at 19%.
This is particularly significant because DMK has rolled out multiple welfare schemes targeting women beneficiaries in recent years. Despite these measures, the survey suggests that TVK is making inroads among younger female voters. Interestingly, TVK's support weakens only in the 60+ age group, where it reportedly trails in third position.
Among male voters, DMK+ maintains a lead with 36.4%, followed by AIADMK+ at 25.2%, and TVK at 23.7%.
The Tughlak Idaya Survey paints a complex and evolving political picture in Tamil Nadu's South Zone. While DMK+ remains ahead overall, the surge of TVK among youth and younger women signals a shifting political mood. AIADMK, once the dominant force in many southern districts, now faces the challenge of reclaiming lost ground amid a three-way competition.
If these trends hold, the upcoming elections could witness one of the most closely watched battles in recent Tamil Nadu political history - with generational change emerging as the defining factor.
