Tamil Nadu CM Vijay To Meet PM Narendra Modi On Wednesday

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will be travelling to New Delhi on 27 May 2026, in the first visit to the national capital since taking charge, with officials expecting meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other national leaders during the trip, ANI reported.

Vijay had last met Modi during the Lok Sabha election campaign in Coimbatore. It was a 10-minute meeting where the actor-turned-politician had praised the developmental works in Gujarat.

However, Vijay will be in the national capital three weeks after registering a thumping victory in the Tamil Nadu elections.

According to officials, Vijay will leave Chennai on 27 May morning, with senior bureaucrats, including the Home Secretary, coordinating security and logistics for the stay in Delhi and for any high-level meetings planned during the visit.

Sources said arrangements are in place for Vijay to confer with Narendra Modi, and that the Tamil Nadu leader is also expected to meet Congress figures Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during the Delhi programme.

During the trip, Vijay is scheduled to unveil a statue of Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar that the Tamil Nadu government has installed at Jawaharlal Nehru University, with state officials viewing the event as a cultural outreach in the national capital.

In the Assembly polls, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam became the single-largest party, winning 108 seats, and later secured backing from Congress, the Left parties, VCK and IUML, enabling Vijay to form the government with a clear majority.

Soon after assuming office, the Tamil Nadu government released the list of ministerial portfolios, with Vijay keeping control of key departments such as Home, Police, Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, Women Welfare and Special Programme Implementation.

The administration set up a dedicated Artificial Intelligence department at cabinet level, making Tamil Nadu the second state after Kerala with an AI portfolio, and named Kumar R as Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services, while KA Sengottaiyan got Revenue and N Marie Wilson took Finance.

The Delhi visit, combining political meetings and administrative work, is set to be Vijay's first engagement with national leaders after forming the council of ministers, and will show how the new Tamil Nadu government plans to manage ties with the Union government.
