Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai Clarifies Election Nomination Amid Controversy
The Tamil Nadu BJP Chief, Annamalai, has been in the spotlight due to a controversy surrounding his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. Scheduled for April 19, the elections have stirred up discussions as Annamalai's nomination was accepted despite allegations of an error. The scrutiny of nominations, which concluded on Wednesday, has led to objections from rival parties.

In the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency, Annamalai is representing the BJP. However, his nomination faced criticism from the DMK, AIADMK, and Naam Tamilar parties. They argued that his paperwork was flawed because it used judicial stamp paper instead of the required property registration stamp paper. This complaint led to a detailed examination by the District Election Officer.
The officer clarified that Annamalai had submitted two sets of nomination papers. One set was on court fee paper and the other on Indian non-judicial paper. Amidst confusion and differing legal opinions, the incorrect set was rejected, and the correct one was accepted. Despite this resolution, the opposing parties remained unsatisfied.
Annamalai responded to the controversy by stating that political rivals are using this issue as a tactic because they fear facing him in the election. He explained that filing two nominations is a common practice among major parties to ensure there is a backup in case of any issues with one set of documents. He emphasized that this situation is being blown out of proportion by those who wish to see his nomination disqualified.
He further clarified that both sets of papers were filed under his name with serial numbers 15 and 27. According to him, there's no necessity for a candidate to personally file the second set of papers. Annamalai accused his opponents of trying to get his nomination rejected by falsely claiming he submitted incorrect documents. He believes this move reflects their desperation and fear of losing to him in the upcoming elections.
