Tamil Nadu: 2 Dead, Several Injured In A Blast At Firecrackers Factory In Thoothukudi; CM Stalin Reacts

At least two individuals lost their lives, and four others were injured following an explosion at a private fireackers factory in Thoothukudi on Saturday evening.

"Two people, Muthuk (21) and Vijay (25), died in a blast at a private firecrackers factory in Thoothukudi last evening," said the officials.

Four others - Selvam (21), Prashanth (20), Sendhurkani (45), and Muthumari (41) - sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment at Sathankulam government hospital, they added.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Response

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakhs each for the families of those who died in the blast. Additionally, he declared Rs 1 lakh each for those injured and undergoing treatment in the hospital.

"The Hon'ble Chief Minister @mkstalin has announced condolence and financial assistance to the families of the two persons who died in an explosion at a private firecracker factory in the village of Mechankulam, Eral Circle, Tuticorin District," Tamil Nadu CMO posted a note on X.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at such factories. Authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the explosion to prevent future occurrences. The affected families are receiving support from local officials during this difficult time.
