He was injured in the retaliatory firing and later declared dead at the hospital.

Details of the Incident

K Armstrong was brutally attacked by six men on motorcycles near his residence in Chennai earlier this month. The attack occurred while Armstrong was conversing with party members in Sembium. Despite being rushed to a hospital by his family, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Thiruvengadam had been arrested as a suspect in connection with Armstrong's murder. During an attempt to retrieve weapons used in the crime, he reportedly opened fire on police officers. In response, police fired back, injuring him fatally.

Political Reactions

BSP Chief Mayawati has called for a CBI investigation into Armstrong's murder. She stated, "I urge the state government, especially the Chief Minister, to ensure law and order in the state. The weaker sections, in particular, should feel safe. Had the government been serious, the accused would have been arrested. Since that is not the case, we urge the state government to refer the case to the CBI."

Armstrong gained prominence after organising a significant rally in Chennai two years ago, which featured BSP Chief Mayawati as a guest. His political career included being elected to the Chennai Corporation Council in 2006.

The six attackers who targeted Armstrong fled immediately after committing the crime.

The police encounter resulting in Thiruvengadam's death adds another layer of complexity to an already high-profile case. Authorities continue their investigation into Armstrong's murder and are working to apprehend all involved parties.
