State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu To Present Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25 On Monday

A week after the uproar following Governor RN Ravi's brief conclusion of his customary address to the House, MK Stalin's DMK government will present the state budget on Monday.

Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu is scheduled to present the general budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 on February 19. Following this, on February 20, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam will present the agriculture budget alongside other government-related activities.

On February 21, the assembly will witness presentations of demands for supplementary estimates, followed by voting. Moreover, discussions on both the general budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 and the Agriculture budget for the same period will commence during both morning and evening sessions.

The budget session was kicked off with RN Ravi's speech on February 12. He had made certain remarks over the content of the address, even as his remarks were 'expunged.'

The Governor, in his inaugural address for the year to the House, said his repeated requests and advice (to the state government) to show due respect to the national anthem and play it at the beginning and the end of the address has been ignored.

It will be an important budget for the ruling DMK as it aims to win the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu in the upcoming general elections.

The 2023 Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget had laid emphasis on the use of technology like IoT, drones and remote sensing, besides envisaging a role for industries and other allied departments to ensure remunerative prices for farmers and enhancing employment opportunities in the farm sector.
