Stalin Vows Chepauk-Like Cricket Stadium In Coimbatore; Annamalai Says 511 Poll Promises Unfulfilled
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday promised a new cricket stadium in Coimbatore which could be the second international-standard cricket venue after MA Chidambaram (Chepauk) in Chennai.
In a post shared on X, he said that the DMK government will make efforts to establish a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Coimbatore, with the active "participation of the sports-loving people".

Sharing the tweet shared by minister TRB Raaja, he said "This stadium aims to be Tamil Nadu's second international-standard cricket venue after Chennai's iconic MAC stadium. Our government and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin are committed to nurturing talent and enhancing sports infrastructure in Tamil Nadu."
Hitting out at the promise, K Annamalai urged the Tamil Nadu CM to fulfil 511 promises made by the DMK in the 2021 assembly polls. He said, "We want to remind TN CM Thiru @mkstalin that the 511 poll promises he gave in 2021 remain unfulfilled, and he first attends to those before making further promises after sensing defeat. The electoral stunts of DMK cannot deceive the youth & the sports enthusiasts in Coimbatore as they have grown increasingly vigilant."
As a sports and cricket enthusiast, I would like to add one more promise to our election manifesto for #Elections2024:

He then accused the DMK of failing to construct a new bus terminus in Coimbatore in the last three years. The Tamil Nadu BJP said, "It is today promising a stadium that should be regarded as the joke of the year and deserves slow clapping from the people of Coimbatore."
Earlier, TRB Baalu requested for another stadium in Tamil Nadu. Given the talents that are available in and around Kovai and the genuine need for another world-class cricket stadium in the state, the DMK minister said.

"This stadium should also redefine cricketing standards globally by being the most Sustainably built state-of-the-art Stadium in the world. It could be a net zero stadium, which will not only boost our local cricket ecosystem, to which we will add small turf grounds, but also serve as a beacon of green innovation, water-conservation and climate-consciousness," he stated.

Coimbatore is one of the key constituencies that the BJP is hoping to win. As per pull pundits, it is set for a triangular contest with many national media surveys predicting K Annamalai to win. He is taking on DMK's Ganapathi P Raj Kumar and the AIADMK's Ramachandran Govindarasu.
