Rajinikanth Meets DMK Chief MK Stalin At His Residence

Days after the DMK suffered a major setback in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, actor Rajinikanth visited former Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin at his residence.

A photo of the two leaders sitting across from each other has since gone viral on social media.

The election results delivered a stunning blow to the incumbent DMK, which was defeated by actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). TVK secured 108 seats, while the DMK managed only 59.

Shockingly, Stalin himself lost his constituency to TVK candidate VS Babu by nearly 8,700 votes.

With the DMK finishing second, they will serve as the opposition. Since Stalin failed to retain his seat, his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, the former deputy chief minister and current MLA for Chepauk, is widely expected to take on the role of Leader of the Opposition.

Rajinikanth's visit comes at a politically charged moment. The actor has long shown interest in politics, having backed the DMK alliance in 1995 and again during the 1998 general elections. He planned to officially enter politics in 2017 but withdrew in 2021 citing health issues. Following Vijay's victory, Rajinikanth also posted a congratulatory message on X to the actor-politician.

Meanwhile, the TVK is moving toward government formation. The Congress has agreed to an alliance, providing five additional seats. With this, Vijay now needs 11 more seats to prove a majority.

The CPI and the VCK are in talks with the TVK. Meanwhile, a section of the AIADMK wants to support Vijay's party.

On the film front, Rajinikanth has wrapped up his Jailer 2.

Additionally, Kamal Haasan is producing another Rajinikanth starrer directed by Cibi Chakravarthy.
