Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that he will address a major NDA election rally in Tamil Nadu, signalling the formal launch of the BJP-AIADMK's campaign push in the state ahead of the crucial elections.

In a post on X, Modi said he would be sharing the stage with NDA leaders at Madhuranthakam near Chennai and asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu were looking for change.

"I'll be joining NDA leaders at the rally in Madhuranthakam later today. Tamil Nadu has decided that it's time to bid farewell to the corrupt DMK Government. The NDA's governance record and commitment to regional aspirations are striking a chord with the people of the state," the Prime Minister wrote.

The rally is politically significant as it marks the first joint public appearance of BJP and AIADMK leaders after the revival of their alliance, setting the tone for a high-stakes electoral contest in the state.

NDA Sounds Poll Bugle in Tamil Nadu

The BJP and AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are set to sound the poll bugle in Tamil Nadu with Modi's rally at Madhuranthakam in Chengalpattu district, about 90 km from Chennai. The event is being projected as the official start of the NDA's election campaign in the state.

Five-tier security arrangements have been put in place at the venue, reflecting the scale and sensitivity of the rally. Senior BJP leaders and state officials have been overseeing preparations over the past few days.

Alliance Partners: Who Are Attending and Who're Not?

The current NDA in Tamil Nadu includes AIADMK led by Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), the BJP, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) faction led by Anbumani Ramadoss, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) led by G K Vasan, and smaller allies such as the New Justice Party, Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi, and the Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), led by T T V Dhinakaran, recently rejoined the NDA, strengthening the alliance ahead of the rally. These leaders will share stage with PM Modi today at the raly.

However, former AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) is expected to skip the event after quitting the NDA and reportedly not receiving an invitation. However, his son O P Ravindranath met Piyush Goyal at his hotel and held talks. Also, S Ramdoss' faction of the PMK is not part of the event.

Efforts are still underway to bring Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), led by Premalatha Vijayakanth into the NDA fold, though she is not part of Friday's rally.

Rally Timing, Venue and Schedule

According to the official schedule, PM Modi will address the public meeting at 3 pm at Madhuranthakam. He is expected to leave the venue by 4.30 pm. Union Minister L Murugan said the rally would mark the formal beginning of the NDA's election campaign in Tamil Nadu.

AIADMK General Secretary EPS claimed that around five lakh people were expected to attend, calling the rally a potential "turning point" in the state's political landscape.
