Ooty, Kodaikanal E-Pass 2025: Book Your Passes For Good Friday Weekend Now As Large Number Of Tourists Expecte

Tourists coming to Ooty and Kodaikanal from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka (especially Bengaluru) and other parts of South India should note that it is mandatory to get e-pass before entering the hill stations, though there were reports of lapses in checking last week.

Huge Number Of Visitors

How To Book Ooty Kodaikanal E-Pass

Over the last weekend, over 38,600 tourists visited Ooty during the Tamil New Year weekend, due to the extended holiday. This week again, huge number of visitors are expected to arrive at the hill stations due to the Good Friday weekend.

People visited Ooty in big numbers, due to which hotels and restaurants were fully packed. A visitor named Ramakrishnan from Chennai told The Times of India: "In connection with Tamil New Year, govt offices got three days of holidays. It is a brief escape for us from the scorching heat."

New restrictions limiting the number of tourist vehicles entering the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal came into effect from April 1, sparking protests from local businesses and prompting the Tamil Nadu government to challenge the Madras High Court's order.

Nilgiris (Ooty): 6,000 vehicles on weekdays, 8,000 on weekends.

Kodaikanal: 4,000 vehicles on weekdays, 6,000 on weekends.

So, visitors are advised to book their e-pass before landing in the hill stations. However, there were some lapses in the e-pass generation last week as the checks were not conducted at a few checkposts. The location administration has claimed that there were more vehicles than the court-imposed limit.

A resident named Pranesh told the English daily: "Our family friend and his family came from Kerala without an e-pass (which they did not know) and passed through Nadugani checkpost, and they were not checked for e-pass."
