Madurai ITI Student Stripped, Hit In Private Parts; Warden Suspended

A horrific incident, a student of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Thirumangalam in Madurai was ragged by his seniors at the college hostel. The incident, captured on video, shows the victim being stripped naked, taunted, and beaten with a slipper on his private part.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked widespread outrage and serious questions about the safety mechanisms within educational hostels.

The footage reveals a group of students surrounding the victim, forcibly removing his clothes, and physically assaulting him. The attackers can be seen hitting the victim's private parts with a slipper while mocking him. The nature of the assault points to extreme physical and psychological torment.

The incident came to light after the victim's parents filed a formal complaint with the college authorities. Based on the complaint, the local police have registered a case against three students identified in the video. Meanwhile, the hostel warden has been suspended for alleged negligence pending a full inquiry.

This case is not isolated. It echoes a similarly brutal ragging incident that came to light in February 2025 at the Government College of Nursing in Kottayam, Kerala.

In that case, five senior students were arrested for torturing their juniors over several months. The abuse included making cuts on the victims' bodies, applying cream to the wounds, stripping them, and hanging dumbbells on their private parts.

The recurrence of such extreme ragging incidents across South India has led to renewed demands for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging laws and more accountable oversight within college hostels to prevent such atrocities.
