Lok Sabha Poll Survey: Annamalai-Led BJP's Concentrated Efforts In Tamil Nadu Unlikely To Bear Fruit

Probably for the first time since the party was formed in the early 80s, the BJP has put in a lot of hard work to win seats in Tamil Nadu. The saffron party under the leadership of K Annamalai is aiming to bag a few seats in the state which has always been dominated by the Dravidian parties.

According to the ABP-CVoter Opinion Poll, the DMK-Congress alliance is poised to sweep the upcoming Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha polls. The INDIA bloc is projected to claim all 39 seats in the state, while the NDA is forecasted to draw a blank. The DMK is expected to secure 30 seats, with the Congress likely to win the remaining.

The political narrative in Tamil Nadu centres around concerns such as the perceived threat to India's federal structure and democracy by the BJP, the preservation of Dravidian identity, and cultural rights, including language. The DMK has emphasized issues surrounding Centre-state relations and fiscal matters. Recent events, including the arrest of a former DMK functionary, have sparked political controversies, with the BJP and AIADMK attempting to leverage them for electoral gain while also criticizing the MK Stalin-led party for its dynastic tendencies.

The BJP, striving to make inroads, is eyeing victories in key constituencies such as Coimbatore and Kanniyakumari. It has countered the DMK's allegations of being a North Indian party by actively promoting Tamil culture and language. Notably, the BJP's manifesto includes pledges to establish Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centers worldwide, aimed at fostering the promotion of Tamil language and culture.

However, several surveys had indicated that the BJP would win a few seats and its vote share would cross double-digit this time. More interestingly. some opinion polls claimed that it would perform better than the AIADMK.

Case Against Annamalai

Meanwhile, the Coimbatore police have lodged an FIR against BJP state chief K Annamalai for allegedly campaigning beyond the 10 PM deadline last night.

Responding to the development, Annamalai said, "The Police stopped our vehicle under the pretext that I was not allowed to campaign after 10 PM while travelling through a preapproved point. Despite explaining that we were not campaigning, the lights in our vehicle were off, and we only wanted to meet the 2000 @BJP4TamilNadu cadres in the pre-approved point through which our campaign vehicle was passing."

He accused the Police of forcing him to take an alternative route despite explaining to the Police officer that their actions were beyond the instructions laid down by the Election Commission.

"The draconian DMK Govt will face the people's wrath when Coimbatore Will unanimously casts its vote disapproving 3 years of misgovernance on the 19th of April," he added.
