Live Sivaganga Election Results 2024: It's Karti Chidambaram vs Devanathan Yadav

The counting of votes polled in the April 19 Lok Sabha elections to 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu began at 8 AM across the state on Tuesday. Counting began amid a heavy police security in all of the 39 counting centres. Postal ballots were taken up first.

As many as 950 candidates are in the fray in the 39 Lok Sabha segments in the state, which had a voter turnout of 69.72 per cent in the April 19 single-phase election in Tamil Nadu.

The Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency has historically been a Congress stronghold. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has represented this constituency seven times.

His son Karti Chidambaram contested from here in 2014 but faced defeat. However, he emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In the 2019 elections, Karti Chidambaram secured an impressive 52.36 per cent of the total votes, outpacing his nearest rival by a substantial margin of almost 3.33 lakhs.

This time, it is expected to be fiercely contested, with a three-way battle unfolding among Karti Chidambaram, Devanathan Yadav from the BJP, and A Xavierd of the AIADMK.

Devanathan Yadav is a new face and a Chennai-based entrepreneur who owns the WinTv group, which has added an element of unpredictability to the race.

The Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency has six Assembly segments. Four of them are - Sivaganga, Manamadurai, Tirupathur and Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, while Thirumayam and Alangudi are in Pudukottai district.
