Live Kanniyakumari Election Results 2024: Will Pon Radhakrishnan Defeat Vijay Vasanth, Nazareth Pasilian?
The counting of votes polled in the April 19 Lok Sabha elections to 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu began at 8 AM across the state on Tuesday. Counting began amid a heavy police security in all of the 39 counting centres. Postal ballots were taken up first.
As many as 950 candidates are in the fray in the 39 Lok Sabha segments in the state, which had a voter turnout of 69.72 per cent in the April 19 single-phase election in Tamil Nadu.
The Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency is expected to witness a triangular contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP has nominated Pon Radhakrishnan, while the Congress has fielded sitting MP Vijay Vasanth, and the AIADMK has chosen Nazareth Pasilian.

Established in 2009, the constituency saw DMK's J Helen Davidson defeating the BJP's Pon Radhakrishnan by 65,687 votes in its maiden election.
However, Pon Radhakrishnan made history five years later by securing the seat for the BJP, marking the party's sole victory in the 2014 general elections. He defeated Congress candidate H Vasanthakumar by a margin of 1,28,662 votes.
In a turn of events in 2019, the Congress candidate emerged victorious, defeating the same BJP contender by a significant margin of 2,59,933 votes.
Throughout the existence of the Kanniyakumari seat, Pon Radhakrishnan has consistently represented the BJP in all Lok Sabha elections. The DMK and BJP have each secured victory once, while the Congress has clinched the seat twice.
In this poll, the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency recorded a total of 65.46% votes. This figure falls below the polling percentage of 69.9% seen in the 2019 general elections.
The breakdown of votes by assembly segment is as follows: The Kanniyakumari Assembly segment saw 2,05,931 votes (69.59%), Nagercoil Assembly segment recorded 1,68,298 votes (63.29%), Killiyur Assembly segment had 1,55,328 votes (62.93%), Colachel Assembly segment registered 1,72,684 votes (64.05%), Vilavancode Assembly segment tallied 1,55,494 votes (65.40%), and Padmanabhapuram Assembly segment amassed 1,62,017 votes (66.98%).
