Kashmir to Kanyakumari: Startup serves "Tirunalveli Halva" across India!

Chennai, Dec 3: When the name "Tirunelveli" pops in one's head, the only thing that strikes is the mouth-watering halva that the place is popular for. Not just in Tamil Nadu, this sweet dish that has been associated with the place name Tirunalveli, is popular across the country.

Keeping the demand for this popular sweet dish in mind, three school friends - Prabhakaran Arunachalam, Jasper Koilraj and Kulandai Vel - hailing from Tirunelveli, have co-started an online shop - Sweetkadai - selling and shipping this local delicacy across India, mentioned The News Minute.

The startup that began in October, is based in Thirunelveli and has been selling halwa to online customers.

Prabhakaran Arunachalam said that the idea originated after he forgot to take halwa for his friends and colleagues in hurry while returning to Chennai from his hometown. To not disappoint them, he had requested his friend to courier it to him.

"Why can't we do it as a business?," said Prabhakaran to his friends after which they began the shop.

The online store picked up quickly and started selling almost 30 kilograms of halva across the country everyday, mostly to places like West Bengal and Haryana.
