Jam Packed: Chennai's Velachery MRTS Station Buzzes With Air Show Enthusiasts

Thousands gathered at Velachery MRTS railway station, eager to attend the Indian Air Force's air show at Marina. The event's popularity led to an unusually large crowd, highlighting its appeal. Commuters hoped Southern Railway would increase train services to accommodate the turnout, ensuring everyone reached the venue on time.

The Velachery Tambaram main road also faced heavy traffic congestion due to the air show. This demonstrated the high interest in the event, affecting both public transport and roadways. The traffic buildup underscored the broader impact on Chennai's transport infrastructure, marking a significant day for both the Indian Air Force and residents.

Chennaiites Thrilled by Marina Beach Air Show

On a sunny Sunday, Chennaiites flocked to Marina Beach to witness an impressive aerial display by IAF aircraft. The show featured new aircraft like Rafale, captivating thousands of spectators. Families gathered with umbrellas for shade as they awaited the 11 am start, eager to see the Special Garud Force commandos' daring simulated rescue operation.

The air show included para jump instructors landing precisely on target and commandos slithering into position. Spectators were spellbound by these feats. As clear skies provided excellent views, people waved umbrellas for aerial photos from IAF aircraft during the show's finale.

Record-Breaking Participation in Air Display

A total of 72 aircraft participated in this air display, aiming for a spot in the Limca Book of World Records. Around 50 aircraft, including supersonic fighter jets like Rafale, performed formation flights while showering flares. Heritage planes Dakota and Harvard joined Tejas, SU-30, and Sarang in this aerial salute.

The Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet showcased its "Loop-tumble-yaw" manoeuvre while dispensing flares. The Suryakiran team also took to the skies, delighting onlookers with their performance.

Indigenous Aircraft Shine in Chennai

The nation's pride was evident as indigenously manufactured Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and Light Combat Helicopter Prachand participated in the flypast and aerial display. Held after 21 years in Chennai with the theme "Saksham, Sashakta, Amtanirbhar," it marked only the third such event outside Delhi.

The previous spectacle occurred over Prayagraj's Sangam area on October 8, 2023, and in Chandigarh last year. The grand finale featured a breathtaking performance by Sarang helicopter display team with stunning aerial manoeuvres.

The highlight was Rafale demonstrating refuelling capabilities while streaking across the sky alongside Dakota's action-packed display-a sight to behold for all attendees.
