Is Rajinikanth Attending Hindu Munnani's Lord Murugan Conference in Madurai? Here's The Truth
Final touches are being made at Amma Thidal in Madurai for the Muruga Bakthargalin Aanmeega Maanadu, a significant event by the Hindu Munnani, set for June 22.
The conference has drawn national interest due to its notable guest list. Invitations have been sent to key political figures like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The involvement of BJP leaders in inviting these dignitaries highlights the event's political importance.

Political Context and Legal Challenges
Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent visit to Madurai added to the political atmosphere. At a party meeting, Shah encouraged attendance at the conference and accused the ruling DMK party of disrespecting Hindu heritage by calling Tiruparankundram Hill "Sikandar Hill."
The conference's organization faced hurdles, proceeding only after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court granted permission on June 13. The court instructed Hindu Munnani to follow several conditions set by the Madurai Police.
Safety Measures and Political Accusations
Conditions include prohibiting political use of the spiritual platform. Police must ensure all vehicles attending are registered with valid insurance and licenses. Organizers claim these measures ensure safety and prevent stampedes, while BJP accuses DMK of trying to hinder the event.
A rumor about superstar Rajinikanth attending gained traction on social media amid preparations, which include replicas of Lord Murugan's six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu). His publicist officially denied this speculation.
"The news circulating that Chairman @rajinikanth will be participating in the Murugan devotees' conference to be held in Madurai on June 22nd is false. Chairman Rajinikanth will not be attending," stated Riaz K. Ahmed in a post on the social media platform X.
Religious Significance and Ideological Tussle
This conference is viewed as part of an ongoing ideological battle in Tamil Nadu. With Lord Murugan being deeply revered across the state, this event serves as a significant platform. The ruling DMK organized its own two-day conference dedicated to the Tamil god in August 2024, countering its "anti-Hindu" image after controversial remarks on Sanatana Dharma by a party leader.
The Hindu Munnani event will feature mass recitals of devotional hymns like Kandha Shashti Kavasam and Thiruppugazh, blending religious sentiment with political influence.
