I'm Senior To Thalapathy Vijay In Politics: Vijayakanth's Son And DMDK Leader On TVK Chief
Vijaya Prabhakaran, son of late DMDK leader Captain Vijayakanth and the newly appointed Youth Secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), has drawn media attention after making comments about actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
In an interview, Prabhakaran was asked whether his DMDK would join hands with the TVK for which he said: "I've only met Vijay a couple of times. The last time was at our home after his film Code was released. But we haven't had any political discussions or alliance talks."

Talking about the comparisons between himself and Vijay, he highlighted their differing political and cinematic trajectories, as per the Indiaglitz report. He said, "I'm 33 years old, and Vijay is 50. Don't compare me to him. Yes, he is my senior in age, but when we spoke about politics, he himself graciously said, 'You're senior to me in politics.' I take pride in that acknowledgement and respect him deeply."
Vijayakant's son said that Vijay, who is popularly known as Thalapathy among his fans, the actor is a veteran in films. He continued, "When it comes to cinema, Vijay is a veteran. He's a big name with lakhs of youth following him-just like my father Captain had two decades ago. That kind of youth power is a real strength."
On asking about Vijay's confidence in coming to power in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, Vijaya Prabhakaran responded firmly: "That's his belief. I don't see it that way. Ultimately, it's for the people to decide."
Background on DMDK and Vijay's Political Entry
The DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam), founded by the late Captain Vijayakanth in 2005, was once a key opposition force in Tamil Nadu. Following Vijayakanth's passing in December 2023, his wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth, took over as the party's general secretary.
Meanwhile, Vijay launched his own political outfit, the TVK in 2024. While speculation about potential alliances persists-including reported talks with the AIADMK-no formal partnerships have been announced yet.
