How To Stop Rains In Chennai? Declare Holiday For Schools, Say Netizens

Netizens are having a field day as the rains stopped in Chennai. While the authorities declared holiday for schools and colleges in view of rains due to Cyclone Fengal, the Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai has not witnessed rains in most parts today.

As a result, people are adding humour to the situation about the timing of the holidays. One user on X joked, "What's the surefire way to stop rain in Chennai? Just declare a holiday for schools and colleges."

Recalling a similar incident during Cyclone Michaung, another user wrote, "During Michaung, the government announced a holiday, and it didn't rain that day 😂. They're being cautious, but if something had happened to students without the holiday, the same people would complain!"

A third user quipped, "God bless whoever sends a fake cyclone to Chennai every year, gifting me at least three days of holiday!"

Another netizen humorously commented, "The cue for a cyclone to change its course is when the Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram district collectors declare holidays for schools."

Others joined in the fun:

  • "The moment the holiday news broke at 8 PM yesterday, the rain stopped. Now it's all 🌥️ today."
  • "Perfect prediction! So far, no rains in Chennai, and yet, schools are on holiday 😂."
  • "Brilliant strategy by the government: declare holidays to deflect rain from Chennai!"
  • "Why does this always happen when a school holiday is declared in KTCC? 😒"

Has the rain really gone?

Not quite. According to weather blogger Tamil Nadu Weatherman, Chennai can expect light to moderate showers today and tomorrow, while heavy rains are forecast for Friday and Saturday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has also issued alerts for several districts:

  • Red Alert: Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai.
  • Orange Alert: Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai.
  • Yellow Alert: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi.

While humor fills the air for now, it seems the rain may still make a comeback soon!

However, close to 20 districts in Tamil Nadu witnessed heavy rains in the last 24 hours, the data released by the Regional Meterological Centre said on Wednesday morning.
Nagapattinam recorded the highest rainfall at 164 mm, followed by Tiruvarur (96 mm), Cuddalore (88 mm), Mayiladuthurai (80.5 mm), Chennai (77.5 mm), Thanjavur (77 mm), Villupuram (78 mm), and Chengalpattu (75 mm) in the last 24 hours.
