'Get Better Political Advisors': TN BJP Chief Annamalai Slams Thalapathy Vijay For His CAA Statement

Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai has slammed Tamil actor and 'Tamilaga Vetri Kazham' (TVK) founder Vijay for his recent remarks on the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

The BJP leader has said that one cannot release a one-line statement to express his disagreement without explaining why they are opposing it.

Annamalai On Vijay s CAA Comments

"Actor Vijay says in one line. You cannot run a political party with online statement in the press. It's discriminatory and I request the government of Tamil Nadu not to implement it. When did Stalin (Tamil Nadu Chief Minister) get the power to implement or not to implement a CAA bill. It is a union list entry. Citizens ship is decided by the union government," Annamalai said.

He then asked Vijay to have better political advisors. "Either you should have a better political advisor or you got to tell clearly what is discriminatory. You cannot have an online press statement in a tweet."

He then said that political parties cannot register their opposition just through a social media post saying "CAA is discriminatory, thereby I am opposing. Full stop, period. bye bye,"

In a statement, Vijay urged the Tamil Nadu government not to implement the CAA. The message read: "It is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) in an environment where all citizens of the country live with social harmony," the actor said in a statement. He also requested the DMK government in Tamil Nadu not to implement in the state. "The leaders should ensure that this law does not get implemented in Tamil Nadu,"

The Centre on Monday said that the rules for implementing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) have been notified. This development opens the path for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. With the issuance of the CAA rules, the BJP government will commence the process of bestowing Indian nationality upon persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India by December 31, 2014. This includes Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians.
