LPG Tanker Overturns in Coimbatore
Earlier, in the early hours of Friday, a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker overturned on the Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore, causing a minor gas leak, according to Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati.
The tanker, carrying 18 tonnes of LPG, overturned after detaching from the truck while the driver navigated a roundabout on the flyover. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
As a precaution, schools within a 500-metre to 1-kilometre radius of the incident were instructed to close for the day.
The mishap brought traffic in the city centre to a temporary standstill. Authorities acted swiftly after the truck driver reported the accident, halting traffic in the vicinity and averting a potential disaster, the district collector stated.
Fire service and rescue teams sprayed water on the overturned tanker, which was en route to a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) bottling plant in Ganapathy, Coimbatore, from Kochi in Kerala.
