Edappadi K. Palaniswami Shifts Election Strategy To Criticise BJP

Edappadi Palaniswami, the opposition leader, has recently started to voice his criticisms against the BJP. This move has sparked discussions among AIADMK members, who believe that this strategy was suggested to Palaniswami. Despite being busy with the election campaign, Palaniswami makes it a point to stay informed about the on-ground realities by consulting with a diverse group of individuals. This includes officials who are sympathetic to AIADMK, intelligence officers, former senior intelligence officials, and leaders from government employee and teacher unions.

These consultations have led to insights that the AIADMK is ahead in the campaign. It has been decided that the BJP will be criticized alongside the DMK government. The rationale behind this strategy is the belief that AIADMK will capture most of the anti-DMK votes, and due to Prime Minister Modi's frequent visits and Annamalai's outspoken comments, the BJP is expected to attract a portion of these votes as well. Recognizing this shift, Palaniswami has initiated his critique of the central government.

Palaniswami Targets BJP in Campaign Shift

In one of his speeches, Palaniswami targeted Rama Srinivasan, the BJP candidate for Madurai, accusing him of criticizing AIADMK to establish his own identity. He dismissed Srinivasan's claims that AIADMK would disappear in the current Lok Sabha election. Palaniswami highlighted the long-standing commitment of AIADMK members, including himself, who have dedicated 50 years to serving the party. He contrasted this with what he described as Srinivasan's luxury lifestyle and accused him of engaging in superficial politics.

Palaniswami also reminded his audience that it was AIADMK that introduced BJP to Tamil Nadu in 1998 through the late Chief Minister Jayalalitha, who popularized BJP's Kamal symbol in the state. He challenged the notion that AIADMK would cease to exist. Interestingly, throughout his campaign, Palaniswami has avoided mentioning Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah by name. Despite this being an election where Modi's leadership is a key factor, Palaniswami has steered clear of direct attacks on Modi, suggesting a strategic choice influenced by advice from various quarters within his party and beyond.
