Dry Days Alert In Tamil Nadu: Are Bars, TASMAC & Liquor Shops Open On April 10? Find Out
TASMAC Holiday 2025: Attention, tipplers! If you were planning to grab a drink tomorrow (April 10), think again - it's a dry day in Tamil Nadu for Mahavir Jayanti, a major Jain festival celebrating the birth of Lord Mahavira. That means TASMAC shops, bars, and liquor outlets will remain closed.
But wait, there is a demand from a section of people to include Good Friday in the list of no-liquour day in the state.

Why Isn't Good Friday a Dry Day?
Christian groups, led by Father Jeyanthan of the Amalorpava Matha Madhu Vilakku Sabai, have been pushing for years to add Good Friday to the list of dry days. They even held a protest fast in Tiruchendur, arguing that since the government already shuts liquor shops on other religious occasions (like Gandhi Jayanti, Miladi Nabi, and Vallalar Memorial Day), it should do the same for Good Friday.
However, TASMAC officials say it's a policy decision-meaning unless the state government changes its stance, liquor shops will stay open on Good Friday.
What's the Current Dry Day List?
As per state rules, TASMAC shops close on:
- Gandhi Jayanti
- Thiruvalluvar Day
- Mahavir Jayanti
- Miladi Nabi
- Vallalar Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Republic Day
- Labour Day
But for now, Good Friday drinkers, you're in luck-unless the government changes its mind. So, plan your stock accordingly!
