Dry Day News: Are TASMAC & Bars Closed In Tamil Nadu On Good Friday?
TASMAC Holiday News: Amalorpava Matha Madhuvilakku Sabai had recently urged the Tamil Nadu government to shut TASMAC shops and bars on Good Friday (April 18). This has created confusion in the minds of the public about whether there will be a ban on the sale of alcohol tomorrow. What's In The Plea It had also filed a plea asking the authorities to bring necessary amendments to ban the sale of liquor as it is a holy day for Christians, according to a report in the New Indian Express. Father Jeyanthan of Amalorpava Matha Madhuvilakku Sabai had also done a one-day fast seeking a ban on the issue. He has been demanding a ban on liquor on Good Friday for the last four years. However, the community had submitted a plea to the Minorities Welfare Minister SM Nazar. Father Jeyanthan claimed that the district-level officers have not been taking the issue to the Chief Minister. Are TASMAC Closed On Friday? However, District Manager of Tasmac has rejected the plea stating that the call on the ban should be taken by the state government. So, till now, the state government or local authorities have not passed any such orders to shut the TASMAC shops and bards.

Hence, the sale of alcohol is not banned in Tamil Nadu on April 18. Moreover, the plea was more or less restricted to Thoothukudi and not the entire state. So, tipplers can breathe a sigh of relief. It has to be noted that the TASMAC remains closed on many days through out the year. On April 10 too, the sale of liquor was banned on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, a major Jain festival celebrating the birth of Lord Mahavira. As per the state government notification, the TASMAC shops across the state will be closed on the below-mentioned days: Gandhi Jayanti Thiruvalluvar Day Mahavir Jayanti Miladi Nabi Vallalar Memorial Day Independence Day Republic Day Labour Day.
