Divya Sathyaraj To Take On Vijay In Perambur As DMK Candidate?
Perambur could witness a three-way contest among TVK, DMK and AIADMK as Vijay considers contesting, with youth voters under 35 identified as a pivotal demographic. Analyses focus on past margins, party strategies, and rumours over potential star candidacies, shaping expectations for the electoral outcome.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay's possible electoral debut in Perambur is already triggering sharp political chatter, with fresh speculation that the DMK may field Divya Sathyaraj against him as part of a high-profile counter move.
While there has been no official confirmation from either side, social media buzz around Vijay's potential constituency has intensified in recent weeks. Among the names now doing the rounds is that of Divya Sathyaraj, daughter of veteran actor Sathyaraj, who is increasingly being seen as a possible challenger if the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief decides to test his strength in the Chennai constituency.

The speculation gains weight because Divya Sathyaraj has, in recent months, been openly critical of Vijay in public speeches. Her remarks, often laced with taunts and pointed attacks, have drawn attention in political circles and online discussions alike. That has led to talk that the DMK could view her as a politically useful face - someone capable of taking on Vijay not just electorally, but also in the battle for public perception.
At present, however, these claims remain unverified. The reports are largely based on political whispers and social media conversations, and there has been no independent confirmation that Divya Sathyaraj is being seriously considered. Even so, sources in DMK circles indicate that the party is unlikely to leave Vijay unchallenged if he picks a high-visibility urban seat such as Perambur.
For the DMK, the choice of candidate against Vijay would be crucial. If the actor enters the race, the contest would instantly become one of the most watched battles of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. In that scenario, the ruling party would be expected to field someone with strong recall value, communication skills and the ability to match the media glare that Vijay naturally attracts.
Perambur has now emerged as one of the constituencies being closely discussed in connection with Vijay's possible plans. Earlier, Virugambakkam was seen as a likely option, given its links to his family. Tiruchy East was also mentioned in political discussions. There were even reports suggesting that seats beginning with the letter "V" - such as Virudhachalam and Vikravandi - were examined because of astrological considerations tied to Vijay's name and that of his party.
Still, no final decision has been announced by TVK. Until Vijay reveals where he intends to contest, all such scenarios remain speculative. Yet the very fact that names like Divya Sathyaraj are being floated shows how seriously established parties are preparing for Vijay's likely entry into the electoral battlefield.
If Perambur does become the stage, the fight may well turn into a star-versus-star political showdown.
