As Vijay formally readies his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for the 2026 Assembly elections, the question of whether his on-screen rival Ajith Kumar will ever enter politics is once again dominating conversations in Tamil Nadu.

Speculation about Ajith's political future is not new. After the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in 2016, rumours began circulating that she had privately expressed her wish for Ajith to succeed her in the AIADMK. While neither the actor nor the party ever confirmed such claims, the story has continued to resurface over the years.

Now, a video of journalist and Jayalalithaa's close aide Kalachakram Narasimha has gone viral, reigniting the debate. In the clip, Narasimha recalls, "She mentioned an actor from Tamil cinema whose personality she admired - his gentlemanly conduct, his sincerity, the way he mingled with people. She said he would be the right person to join the party, though she wasn't sure if he was interested. She told me this when the topic of succession came up." While Narasimha refrains from naming Ajith directly, fans believe the reference is unmistakable.

Social media reactions have been swift. One user confidently predicted, "Ajith sir will come into politics in 2029 or 2030 and will eventually become the CM of Tamil Nadu - mark my words." Another wrote, "Anyone who has followed politics closely knows this is the truth," while a third opined, "He would have been the perfect man to lead AIADMK."

Ajith, however, has shown little interest in politics so far, focusing instead on his acting career and personal passions such as motor racing. His fans often clash online with Vijay's supporters over box office supremacy, and the idea of the two titans facing each other in the political arena excites many.

Tamil Nadu's politics has long been intertwined with cinema. From C.N. Annadurai to M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa herself, actors have wielded immense influence at the ballot box.
