'Devanagari on Rs 2,000 notes just a design', centre tells Madras High court

In its reply to the Madurai bench of Madras High Court, the Finance Ministry has said that the numeral used on the new Rs 2,000 currency notes is just a design. The Madras High court had asked the central government's counsel to file a reply from the finance ministry on why Devanagari numeral was used in the new high value note while hearing a PIL on it. The petitioner, KPT Ganesan, a resident of Madurai had asked for Rs 2000 notes should be made invalid since usage of Devanagari numerals on it was unconstitutional.
