Cyclone Alert: Chennai Metro Rail To Operate Additional Trains On October 15-17
In a proactive move to assist the public amid heavy rainfall predictions, Chennai Metro Rail has announced an adjustment in its train service frequencies due to the expected cyclone on October 15th, 16th, and 17th, as forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department. The service adjustments aim to accommodate the increased passenger demand during the monsoon season. Trains will now start at 05:00 hrs from all terminals, with the last train leaving at 23:00 hrs, ensuring extended support for commuters during these critical days.

During peak hours, specifically from 08:00 hrs to 11:00 hrs and from 17:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs, the frequency of metro trains will be enhanced. On the Green Line, which runs from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to St. Thomas Mount Metro, trains will be available every 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the Blue Line will see trains running from Airport to Wimco Nagar Depot every 6 minutes, providing a more consistent and reliable service for those traveling between these points.
To further increase the frequency of trains on the Green Line and accommodate the heightened demand, direct train service from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to Airport Metro via Koyambedu and Vadapalani on the Green Line will be temporarily suspended. Commuters wishing to travel from the Green Line to the Airport will need to change trains at Arignar Alandur Metro, allowing for smoother transitions and less congestion on direct routes.
Chennai Metro Rail has also issued a caution advising passengers to avoid parking their vehicles in metro station parking lots known for water stagnation, such as St. Thomas Mount and Arumbakkam. This precaution aims to prevent any inconvenience caused by the anticipated heavy rains and ensure the safety of both passengers and their vehicles. The adjustments to the metro service schedules are part of Chennai Metro Rail's effort to provide reliable and efficient transportation options during adverse weather conditions, reflecting their commitment to serving the community's needs. The metro service's schedule will revert to its normal operations once the weather conditions improve, ensuring that the temporary measures are only in place for the duration of the weather alert.
