Controversy Surrounding TM Krishna's Music Academy Award: K Veeramani Defends
Dravidar Kazhagam President K Veeramani has questioned the opposition to TM Krishna's Music Academy Award. In a press release on Facebook, Veeramani stated that Krishna, a renowned Carnatic musician, has been chosen for this year's 'Sangeetha Kalanidhi' award by the Music Academy of Chennai. The award recognises his work in expanding the audience base of Carnatic music and using it as a tool for social reform.

However, musicians Ranjani and Gayatri have protested against this announcement and declared that they will not participate in the function to be conducted by Krishna on December 20th. They have also shared their dissent on social media.
Veeramani argues that their opposition is based on personal preferences and misinformation about Periyar, a leader who fought for humanity, equality, social justice, and women's rights. TM Krishna is known for transcending traditional boundaries in music and creating songs for environmental protection and against caste-religious arguments.
He is also a Periyar devotee, having released a song last year to mark the centenary of Vaikam with lyrics by writer Perumal Murugan. Veeramani believes that the opposition to Krishna's award is due to an unbearable hatred of Periyar as a public leader beyond caste, religion, race, and language.
He also appreciates the support from various religious friends and art organisations for Krishna and commends the Music Academy organisation and its president Mr. Murali for standing firm in their award selection.
In conclusion, Veeramani states that those who spread defamation on Periyar will have to face the people's forum and the court. He calls for a public platform discussion involving the two women from the music industry who oppose Krishna's award and those behind them.
