Coimbatore School Girl Murder: Family Demands Justice As Pressure Builds On Vijay's Govt To Ensure Safety

Family members of a 10-year-old girl found dead near a pond in Sulur area in Coimbatore on Saturday are demanding justice and severe punishment for the arrested suspects. The death has triggered protests, tense scenes near the Sulur Police Station, and a police investigation that includes suspicion of sexual assault and possible strangulation.

Police said the child went missing while playing outside the family home. Later, parents and relatives discovered the body near a pond, which led to unrest in the locality. Sulur police registered a case, and the body was moved to the Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Officers suspect the child may have been strangled.

Sulur girl death case investigations and arrests

Officers said CCTV footage from the area helped reconstruct events and identify two suspects. Police arrested Karthick, described as a daily wage worker from Nagapattinam, and Mohanraj. Both were produced before Sulur Judge Arunkumar, who remanded them in judicial custody until May 27, while investigators continue to examine the evidence in the Sulur girl death case.

The victim’s uncle, Palanisamy, said the family first heard about the disappearance only late on Thursday night. "Only last night did we get information that the girl was missing. After reaching here, we came to know that the girl had allegedly been kidnapped and that two persons identified as Mohan and Karthick had been arrested," he said. According to Palanisamy, the child had earlier gone to a nearby shop before vanishing.

Public protests over Sulur girl death case

Palanisamy said the girl had not returned after visiting the shop two days earlier, in the evening. "I was told that the girl went missing two days ago in the evening, after she had returned from a nearby shop. We still do not know what happened, and now we cannot even see the body of our child. Police told us that the inquiry is underway," he added, describing the family’s distress.

Relatives and local residents gathered on a National Highway near the Sulur Police Station, blocking traffic and asking for swift justice in the Sulur girl death case. Police intervened and spoke with the demonstrators to clear the congestion. Another relative, Senthil Kumar, alleged that crowds demanding accountability were forcibly dispersed. "Hundreds of students and members of the public staged a protest seeking justice. However, police pushed them away from the spot, and the parents were taken to the Sulur police station for a compromise," he alleged.

Senthil Kumar said the family was waiting for detailed information from the investigating team. "We are now waiting for the police officer, the Udumalpet DSP, who is the Investigating Officer (IO). She is on her way and will reach here in 30 minutes. We don't know what could have happened; we only received information late yesterday evening. First, they said the girl was missing, but later they said she was found dead on the lake shore," he told ANI. Senthil Kumar claimed relatives told the parents to avoid signing papers or accepting anything, saying, "We told them not to sign any papers and not to receive anything. We want justice and want to see what punishment is given to these accused individuals."

Family members said they fear the child could have been sexually assaulted and have demanded strict action against anyone found responsible. TVK MLA from Sulur constituency, NM Sukumar, visited the hospital and spoke with the grieving relatives. As the post-mortem and inquiry continue under the Sulur girl death case, the community remains tense, and the family awaits official findings and legal steps against Karthick and Mohanraj.
