In what could be considered a game changer, the travel time between Chennai and Mysuru via Bengaluru is predicted to come down to just 90 minutes, thanks to the High-Speed Bullet Train project.

According to a report in The Times of India, this ambitious project will span 463 kilometres across three states: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, and will have 11 stops, including three in Bengaluru alone.

Designed for trains capable of reaching speeds up to 350 km/h, with an operational speed of 320 km/h and an average speed of 250 km/h, the high-speed connectivity aims to drastically reduce travel times, effectively bringing Mysuru and Chennai within a mere 90-minute journey of each other, another report claims. The route will include stops at Chennai, Poonamallee, Chittoor, Kolar, Kodahalli, Whitefield, Baiyappanahalli, Electronics City, Kengeri, Mandya, and Mysuru.

Set to commence after the completion of the ongoing Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, India's first Bullet Train project, the Mysuru-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor promises significant benefits for regional development and tourism. The construction will feature a mix of elevated, at-grade, and tunnel segments, primarily passing through greenfield areas.

Tunnel Work
The project includes a 30-kilometre tunnel network, with segments of 2.5 kilometres in Chennai, 11.8 kilometres in Chittoor, 2 kilometres in Bengaluru Rural, and 14 kilometres in Bengaluru city.

The details of the project were shared during a public consultation and environmental and social impact discussion organized by the Kolar district administration, the TOI report adds.

Phase I of the project will cover 306 kilometres from Chennai to Bengaluru, while Phase II will span 157 kilometres from Bengaluru to Mysuru.

Of the total length, 258 kilometres lie within Karnataka, 132 kilometres in Tamil Nadu, and the remainder in Andhra Pradesh. The corridor will affect 313 towns and villages along its route, necessitating comprehensive planning and coordination.

The Mysuru-Bengaluru-Chennai High-Speed Bullet Train project is a significant leap forward in India's transportation infrastructure, promising faster travel, economic growth, and enhanced tourism across the involved regions.
